UU the Vote Wednesday, April 14, 7-8:30pm ET Today we are witnessing a dangerous swelling in anti-democratic measures across the country. Nearly every state in the nation faces voter suppression bills, states and cities are criminalizing protest, and our immigration and criminal legal systems continue to keep us from the promise of a truly democratic nation. Right now, across the country, the people are rising up to demand democracy, organize their communities and leverage their collective power to move lawmakers and corporations to make change. On April 14, engage with theologians, organizers, and activists doing the work of racial and electoral justice. We must grapple with the white supremacist and capitalist agenda that seeks to dominate our society and threaten the lives and dignity of BIPOC, disabled, poor and other marginalized communities. Unitarian Universalism offers us the moral courage and prophetic possibilities for a just, loving and democratic society. The panel discussion will be followed by a workshop for mass action across our UU community. Learn how you and your congregation can join in the urgent work of building a democractic society. If you mailed in your absentee ballot, be sure to check if it has been received by going to your voter registration page at www.michigan.gov/vote. If there is no indication that it has been received, call your clerk’s office now to determine how you can yet vote in person if necessary. You can find your clerk’s office and phone number, also at www.michigan.gov/vote.
Make a phone call to every family member and friend you have in Michigan and engage them in a conversation about voting. If they are not registered to vote, do they know how they can yet register? What’s their plan to vote? Do they know where to drop off their absentee ballot? Do they know how to track their ballot? Do they know how to early in person absentee vote? Share with them the websites www.michigan.gov/vote and centralvotes.org to find information about voting, as well as www.vote411.org for information about candidates. You can also share how your values help you make your decisions about your votes.
