School is just around the corner, and the RE Team would like to help our youth phase into the school year with a back-to-school celebration! To all parents and children, please join us in the social hall after service on August 25 for a light lunch, a chance to chat about the upcoming school year, and some DIY crafts for soon-to-be students and their teachers!
During the 2020 spring school semester, UUFCM will be offering Our Whole Lives sexuality education to children in 7-10th grade every Sunday afternoon beginning January 5th and ending April 26th, excluding the Sundays surrounding Spring Break and Easter Sunday. This secular curriculum “helps participants make informed and responsible decisions about their sexual health and behavior. With a holistic approach, Our Whole Lives provides accurate, developmentally appropriate information about a range of topics, including relationships, gender identity, sexual orientation, sexual health, and cultural influences on sexuality,” (The Unitarian Universalist Association website). This program is free and open to the public, and parents who are interested in registering their children for Our Whole Lives sexuality education can contact our Director of Religious Education, Kendra Peffers, at [email protected] by October 27th.
We picked our first harvest from the UUFCM youth garden to deliver to the Soup Kitchen this week! Kale, green beans, big cucumbers, and three cherry tomatoes!
The UU Youth Garden is still bursting at the seams with growing veggies! Our cucumbers are looking great, with beans, kale, chives, and tomatoes coming in nicely as well... it must be all the care our youth and volunteers are putting in!
On the last Sunday of this month, the RE team invites all children and congregation members to join us in the fellowship hall after service to complete a community mural. This mural will be an enlarged outline of one of Burnie (Auburna) Bonnell's art pieces with the colors and patterns filled in by the rest of us. Some of Burnie's other paintings are hanging in the green room, and we hope to add another that is inspired by her art and completed by her UUFCM family. You don't have to be a master artist to contribute to this project, and we want to get as many people involved as possible! If you have any questions, feel free to contact Kendra Peffers at [email protected].
