The book club has changed our meeting day and time. Starting in October we will be meeting the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 1:00 PM in the Fellowship hall. The October selection is March by Geraldine Brooks. The book won the Pulitzer Prize in 2006. Sue Monk Kidd said, “filled with love and marriage and with the power of war upon the mind and heart of one unforgettable man,” it tells of Louisa May Alcott's father's experience as an Union Army chaplain.
Join us for our First Friday communal nosh! George Lentz is hosting, with the theme of ‘The Despair of Fall.’ The potluck begins at 6:30 p.m. - helping hands are welcome at 6:15 p.m. to assist with set-up preparations. We will also be celebrating the October birthdays of Grace Rollins, Joyce Henricks, Michelle Gawne, Anna VanArsdaleHoot, Tanith Bass, and Chris Bailey.
The 2nd of the harvest festivals, Mabon is the second time of the year to specifically commune with nature. The autumn equinox focuses on the cooler aspects than summer solstice does. The festival is represented by the harvest of corn, along with the other products in your garden that are ready to be harvested.
We invite those of you who are interested in participating in this ritual to bring an item of food or drink to share at the potluck that follows the ceremony. We will gather at 6:30 pm and begin our ceremony promptly at 7:00 pm. Come join us on the 3rd Wednesday of September at 12:30 in the Fellowship Hall. We will be discussing J. D. Vance's memoir Hillbilly Elegy. He gives the reader his personal perspective of growing up in Appalachia and how this affected the choices he made.
Join us for our First Friday communal nosh! Gisela and Tom Moffit are hosting, with the theme of “New Beginnings” as we are celebrating a new school/academic year, a new minister, and a new season. Try out a “new” recipe or bring your favorite dish. Join us even if you can’t bring anything this time. We’d love to have you. The potluck begins at 6:30 p.m. – helping hands are welcome at 6:15 p.m. to assist with set-up preparations. We will also be celebrating the September birthdays of Jolie Damer, Alicia Genia, Beau Bailey, Carol Messick, Gisela Moffit, and Mairi Devenney.
